About a year ago, I was watching an episode of Hablemos Arte , which addressed the issue of the low visibility of women in painting and that just as this occurred in that field, the same thing also occurred in science, technology, medicine and cinema. After telling a friend about the episode and this project I had in mind, he asked me “How many female filmmakers do you know?” And I could only name three: Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion and Julia Ducournau (the latter because she had recently seen Titane). And precisely that question and my answer were what prompted me to start Femalematography, both as a way to educate myself and as a way to share my knowledge and make the work of the women who make up the film industry visible to society.
